Description du contenu de l'enseignement

Teaching program :

o histology and cellular junctions
o The chromatin
o The cell cycle in eukaryotes
o The cell death
o The cytoskeleton
o The compartments and intracellular protein trafficking

During the tutorial sessions, exercises covering the different topics of the course will be proposed to students. Tutorials are presented in the form of experimental data in order to encourage the students to engage a reflection on how observations can be interpreted.
• Labwork
In the four labwork sessions, students will learn:
o to recognize the tissues, vascularization and innervation of an organ.
o to recognize different types of epithelia and understand the tissue organization in an organ.
o to use the yeast model to study cell cycle (growth kinetics and analysis of mutant phenotypes by fluorescence microscopy)
o to observe the organization of the cytoskeleton in different experimental conditions and different cell types by fluorescence microscopy.

Compétences à acquérir

The purpose of this course is:
• to give basic knowledge in cell biology,
• understand how cells are organized in tissues, communicate, multiply and die,
• learning at the cellular level, how the movements of molecules, organelles and intracellular membrane flux are performed,
• to present the main techniques used in cell biology.

Acquired skills :
At the end of these lessons the student must:
• master the basics of histology and cell biology,
• be capable of using an optical microscope and a fluorescence microscope for tissue and cellular analysis,
• be able to use basic techniques of cell biology laboratory (manipulate cells, do cell counting, stain cellular constituents, visualize cells and recognize cellular constituents by microscopy),
• be able to work in accordance with hygiene and safety rules.
